Default DG834** Resource pack - Stats, Telnet, Firmwares etc

This Guide is mainly for Broadcom based DG834**'s, the users of DG834v1/2/3 which use the TI AR7 chipset will find that not everything works!

HOW TO GET YOUR STATS

(The easy way!)

Click this link http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=pi...ng/netgear.cfg
Log into your router (admin & password by default)

Then click this link http://192.168.0.1/netgear.cfg
and open the "netgear.cfg" in Wordpad or NotePad or any other simple text editor you may use.

HOW TO ENABLE TELNET

Click this link http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug
and leave the Window open.

HOW TO USE TELNET

How to get your Full Stats(Example)

If you are using Vista you have to enable telnet on your PC first, how to Here

MAC users take a look Here

ENSURE TELNET IS ENABLED IN THE ROUTER BEFORE YOU START!

(click here http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug Log in and leave the window open if you haven't enabled it via the web interface)

Go to the START menu and in the RUN box type CMD

At the command prompt type telnet

At the Microsoft Telnet prompt type open 192.168.0.1 23

At the Login prompt type admin if you are using standard Netgear firmware or root if you are using a Modded firmware

At the password prompt type password (it will not appear on screen)

At the "BusyBox" prompt # type adslctl info --stats

(DG834v1/2/3 users can try entering cat /proc/avalanche/avsar_modem_stats)

How to read the stats
ES is Error Seconds
LOS is Loss Of Signal
LOF is Loss of framing
CRC is Cyclic Redundancy Check

Lots more about TELNET HERE

ENABLE MODEM ONLY MODE

To enable the router in "Modem Only" mode click this link http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=mode.htm and select from the drop down menu.

THE DMT TOOL

The DMT tool offers detailed stats about your router and the ability to alter your SNR (until you next reboot).

The DMT TOOL v 8.07 now works with the DG834GT, DG834PN and the DG834N (it should work with the DG834v4 as well but i have no means of veryifying this) the website is here www.dmt.de
and a direct link to the download is here DMT Tool v8.07

DG834v1/2/3 users can use the VWLowen Tool to get further information about their connection

FIRMWARES

To get Official Netgear Firmwares for your router Click Here

The DGTeam Project firmwares are available here DGTeam Firmwares - All

{Stevo's DGTEAM firmware for the DG834GT has now been updated to version 8.35 - see rickster25's post below. It has been very popular and used up all of Stevo's Box.net allowance!}

These are alternative download links

http://www.divshare.com/direct/5394103-a2f.zip

The DGTeam firmware offers you the ability to permanently alter your SNR and tweaks your connection. More details available Here

Users of the DG834GT might also like to try the UberGT Firmware which offers similar functionality but is not currently being developed.

There is currently no modified firmware available for the DG834v4

Ex SKY DG834GT users will have to unlock their router prior to flashing the firmware Guide Here

If you are having problems with your router try following the steps detailed HERE

A guide to upgrading your firmware is Here

If anybody knows any more tips or tricks that i have missed please add them below

You may add Waz, that in Vista, Telnet is not enabled by default. You need to use "Turn Windows Features on or off" in the programs and features section of the control panel and enable it there.

I wrote this for totally sefish reasons after trying to find the link for enabling "Modem Only" mode for 20 minutes on Sunday. All of the info in the guide available elsewhere, just not in one place.
I plastered the logo all over the DMT guide to stop somebody hot linking it into their site, I find myself reading lots of things that i originally wrote!

Hi

LPair (line pair), inner is the default, if you change it to outer you probably will not get sync. The RJ11 plug has 4 connections, the middle two are inner, if you had a funny wired RJ11 plug and the two outer connections carried the ADSL signal you would need to change this to outer.

Trellis is another method of encoding the signal to make it more robust, by default this is always on, there is no reason to turn this off, if you do things are only worse for your line. The option is probably there in case you connect to somewhere and the Trellis encoding is broken between you and the equipment at the exchange, so turning it off would give you a connection but without the benefits of Trellis encoding.

Bitswap, default is on. Bitswap allows the line to adjust to changing noise conditions by swapping around how many bits are being carried by each tone. Turning this off will make most lines sync more often.

SRA = Seemless rate adaptation, this is used when bitswapping isn't enough and SRA can adjust the line like a full resync does but very quickly, i.e. < 1 sec so your line doesn't drop, or rather it goes unnoticed. Turning it on makes no difference on Be/O2 as it isn't enabled the other end, they are looking at this for 2009.

Regards

Phil

If I've gone over to the DGTeam firmware on my 834N how do I get back into it to view the config pages. I am assuming the DHCP is off in modem only mode (which I'm in).

Confused.

DGTeam firmware has been updated to version 835 (Aug 31 2008) for the DG843GT
- adds some very useful features

Reference the following link for changes (scroll down to second post)
http://www.hwupgrade.it/forum/showthread.php?t=1541915

I assume that DG843PN and DG843N should soon follow
